Additionally, we are distinct from other churches of Christ in that we do not support human institutions (Romans 15:25-29) and limit all social programs to the work of individual saints (1 Corinthians 11:34). We do not apologize for that (Hebrews 13:21), but we do want you to know what to expect when visiting us. We realize these two points alone set us apart from what is practiced by the majority of churches today, since we do not have women leading in services nor do we use mechanical instruments. This commitment has led us a realization that Jesus wants men leading in worship (1 Corinthians 14:34-35) and for the church to engage in "singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord" (Ephesians 5:19).
Consequently, we believe in worshiping in "spirit and truth" as Jesus commands (John 4:24). We strive to teach and practice the doctrines that pertain to New Testament Christianity (Colossians 3:17). The head of our church is Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:18). The source of our faith is God’s Word, the Bible (Romans 10:17). The “church of Christ” is not a denominational name, but rather a Biblical description of a local group of New Testament Christians (Romans 16:16), who have been added to the Lord's body in obeying the gospel (Acts 2:38, 47). The Courtland Avenue Church of Christ is a body of Christians who have met in the Kokomo area since 1944.
